I am a pirate.

MoneyMas is a lot of things to a lot of people. To me, it is another day of isolation, marginalisation, and annoyance. But from the things that make it so, sometimes comes a boon. This year, it was a quick passing of money from my mother to my account. For a moment, I did consider sending it back and telling her I did not want it. But that would be a lot more aggravation and effort than it was worth, so I did a lot of pondering about the best thing to do with this cash.

I refrained from purchasing Prometheus because of format-pushing.

(Note: This article was written before the move to Sydney, and long before the holiday that I prefer to call MoneyMas. Circumstances have changed somewhat since I wrote it, but apart from a closing note, I will write more on the subject in a later article.)

I love Blu-ray Disc (aww really, I hear you cry). It is not just because the media offers the best home cinema experience money can buy, or that it makes the “cinema” part of home cinema far more literal. (There is a reason that cinemas do not project in an interlaced format, morons.) And it is not even because it is the first home cinema medium where the price seems fair relative to what I get in exchange. No, the reason I love it so is because when I watch older films that I only ever saw on VHS on Blu-ray Disc, I often see those older films in a completely different light. One that DVD cannot hold a candle to.

Most of the time, when I go to the local shops and look at goods, it lifts my spirits somewhat. For most of the preceding year, whilst sitting around the house, I have been feeling… how can I put it? Out of sorts? Like my baby has died? Like I am stuck in a society that would rather throw me away than expend any effort to help me be what I can be? Like I have a masculine parental entity whom I have recently determined is determined to break my spirit?

How to make a good Blu-ray Disc

Introduction

A common saying amongst the individuals who review and evaluate any form of home video is that when all other factors are equal, the picture with the most active dots in it wins. Blu-ray Disc is the king of the home video castle in that sense. No prior medium has ever offered more than twenty percent of its active dot count.

Why I will not watch DVD anymore (aka in praise of BD)

I have written about or referenced a lot of different films in entries prior. That is a given. As I have also written previously, I grew up in a household that was one of the first to have a VCR (Video Cassette Recorder) in the house.
