Of all the things ailing our present oh-so-wonderful mass-communication society, none anger me quite like political correctness. In fact, if you were to ask me on a particularly bad day, I would tell you that I believe conservatives invented political correctness as something to tar and feather liberals with. This essay by Steve Kangas tells a lot about why I find this a credible belief.

Identity and respect… how the two combine.

It has occurred to me that I do not write nearly enough (in my view at least) about autism, what place there is in this world for me as an autistic adult, or the way forward for the autistic. I will try to correct this as best I can, but as anyone with a WordPress account knows, one can also look at their own statistics and see for themselves which tags and categories on their site are getting the most reads. Presently, the Media category gets nearly twice as many reads as does Autistic Identity, and a hundred more than its nearest competitor, Social Studies.

No, school is not for fools, it is just designed for fools. There is a difference.

One thing that the video gets right is how schools are designed to beam messages into the student body’s head without question or elaboration. Eat, absorb, consume, and so forth. In an increasingly overpopulated world where every subsequent generation has too many children for the previous lot of adults to cope with, this is basically a case of taking the easy way out. And that is the point we are going to go over in this article. Namely, that schools take a one size fits all approach, and thus the easy way out. Unfortunately, when you are autistic, not known to be such, and have multiple sensory issues that can lead to wanting changes to your situation so desperately that you will do anything in order to effect them, this can have devastating consequences and effects. The training of teachers and other school staffers to properly respond to this has improved quite dramatically since that song was record. In other words, it has the virtue of being there at all. But it still has quite a long way to go in the sense that teachers need to understand what the word individual really means. And by understand, I mean grok.

As I sit here and go through the process of toying about with several devices that are based on computing principles, most obviously the desktop and laptop computers I own, it occurs to me. In spite of development that has gone on during my lifetime, and before, no real improvements have been made to the humble computer.
