Parental unit supremacism.

I frequently see news items in my Fudgebook feed lately that concern the bizarre and frankly disturbingly idiotic behaviours of white supremacists. I have also already written at length concerning what I refer to as child abuse culture (an example can be found here, in my article concerning the abuse that took place on the Hey Dad! set).

Neurotypical slurs.

Read this article. Three paragraphs in, the author slurs autistic people twice in just one sentence. This sentence being

He suffered a severe form of autism and was unable to communicate verbally.

But really, you can cut this down to 

He suffered a severe form of autism

And it is two slurs in just seven words. Now, before the jump, I am going to warn in advance. I have not one fukking thing to say about Avonte Oquendo. I am sure his family is suffering terribly, but this is completely irrelevant to what I have to say.

Oh, look. People are taking the side of a (wannabe) murderer again.

So, how many weeks has it been since one brave soul who still has not owned up and thus spread the potential fallout to other neighbours made written threats to an autistic child and his mother? This is a serious question. I would like to be able to state an average concerning the number of identifiable threats the autistic receive from day to day, week to week, and so on.

I have had a rough couple of days… and some other things for your amusement.

Regular readers will have noticed a rather sudden break in the usual rhythm of posts on this journal, not with any warning or hinting. This is for a number of reasons, but I think it best to speak in generalities for now. I doubt that any people out there who write seriously (I might define this at another time) will be that surprised that I write in bursts. Whilst drop-offs in output like that which occurred this week are rare, they happen.

They sink to a new low. Autism Speaks think they own a colour.

So, I was discussing the urgent need to replace the puzzle piece with one of our own, with an individual who is more inclined toward illustration and related visual art than I am. As has been discussed already, my candidates mostly have a TRON: Legacy theme to them. But the salient point in this writing is that according to the other conversant in the discussion, Autism Speaks has apparently decided that the colour blue is theirs and their campaign colour.

Shock, dismay, anger: An open letter to Tommy Hilfiger

Mr. Hilfiger,

In a post on Facebook recently, I read that you chose to appear in a public service announcement for Autism Speaks. One of your stated reasons was to “honour” your sixteen year old autistic daughter, Kathleen.

Hypothetical situation: Autism Speaks has just ceased to exist. Now what?

I find it difficult, if not impossible, to imagine an organisation that is allowed to call itself a charity being hated by the people it claims to be working for to a greater extent than is the case with Autism Speaks. In fact, Autism Speaks’ behaviour in general reminds me of one of the few moments in RoboCop 2 that even comes close to working. During the MediaBreak segment that opens the film, we are told that the police in Detroit have gone on strike once again. In the accompanying interview footage, an officer states that the company that has taken control of the police service in the city has cut the force’s salaries by forty percent and cancelled their pensions. And now, he says, said company will not even talk to them. “God knows why,” the officer opines, “but they want this strike.”
