Science (If I may reflect for a while…)

Science is really one of the most wonderful and misunderstood things about the Human experience. I am no scientist myself. Hell, I only understand enough about it to know when someone is trying to bullshit me. But a recent proclamation of intent to “debate” got me thinking. How can I best explain the things that set my bullshit detector off?

I lack a faith section in my brain? No shit?

Sometimes, when I read something, I get so angry that I want to not only destroy the person who said it, I want to destroy any person who even entertains the thought that it is acceptable. How is voting Campbell “55 million for disability funding is not preferable to 110 million for horse-racing” Newman in working out for you, by the way, Queensland?

But no, sometimes not only does a person say something so utterly ridiculous that it makes me even more certain that at least two thirds of the Earth’s Human populace needs to die quickly. Sometimes they say something so abominably stupid that you make a special exception for them, and say that rather than reducing all populations equally, that person and the population that they represent should be terminated. With extreme prejudice.

Keeping the good to oneself. Sharing it with others. The conflict betwixt.

Readers of this publication and all of the things linked to or referenced therein will have noticed a bit of a lean towards unhappy, dark, even scary news. Or outright condemnations of some despicable behaviour, in some major cases. I am sure that it makes the world that I inhabit seem very scary, rotten, or outright evil. And on rare occasions, one will get the sort of person who does not know any better asking why no good news is forthcoming, or why references to good elements in the world the author inhabits are forthcoming.

A mission statement (of sorts)

So, I got to thinking after WordPress had repeatedly warned me that I was approaching a hundred posts. And I think I have been thinking about this in some manner or other since the very day I stopped failing at starting a site (I will write more about this shortly) and actually started one. I needed to write a statement of the reasons and purpose that lie behind this site. Please do not take this as an expression of endorsement of the man, but Adolf Hitler did, after all, have statements of intent and purpose like Mein Kampf. Fear not, though. I have (partly) read Mein Kampf. Whilst both Adolf and I might come across as rambling lunatics a lot of the time, at least I paid attention when a teacher “teaching” me how to write in abstract form within my own language tried to teach me that making complete sense was a requirement.
