No, I do not really smoke two joints when I play a videogame. It is a quote from a song, Smoke Two Joints, by The Toyes. If I did smoke two joints at every ten thousand points while playing some 1990s-era videogames, I could well be the first person to die of marijuana overdose. And really, what better way could there be to introduce a rambling about the subject of videogames from prior eras, namely before the whole mass-marketing bubble, that I would gladly throw everything from this era into the sewage in order to play again? I am unsure which film I first saw in the theatres after moving to my present location. It may well have been the third Transporter film, which would be ironic considering that it has the exact same problem that Abrams‘ “reboot” of Star Trek has. Continue Reading
I am a child of the 1980s. Well, actually, I was born towards the close of the 1970s, but that pretty much puts me in the child of the 1980s category since on December 31, 1979, I had only just worked out this whole walking and staying upright 80% of the time thing. Continue Reading

You cannot keep a good, awesome, or even irrepressible performer down. Exhibit A is the ageing performer known as William Shatner. As of March 22 in 2012, William Shatner is eighty-one years old. But as Henry Rollins said during a speech about his own work with Shatner on a musical project, the man still has an enthusiasm and energy that a man half his age would be proud of. In this entry, the subject is William Shatner and his side-career in the field of music. Essentially, Shatner has released three albums during different phases of his career. The first, The Transformed Man, was released whilst he was still starring in the original Star Trek television series. The second album Shatner released, Has Been, was released in 2004. But the album that inspired me to write about Shatner‘s music today, Seeking Major Tom, was released late in 2011, and Odin and I can both tell you that it is awesome beyond words. Continue Reading
